Really like the middle photograph from this series, it looks like a well considered and composed image. Also quite an intriguing photograph, they're are obviously important to you, by not seeing their faces it asks what is the link to you as the photographer.
As to you not wanting them to looking like a snap shot, could you try and get them into a studio to photograph them, or find a considered space important to your/their lives. The book for the Tate Modern exhibition in 2008 'Street and Studio' has some interesting photographs you could look at. The book is called 'Street and Studio, An Urban History of photography'
